David Montgomery - RB

RB David Montgomery NFL Draft Profile - Iowa State

David Montgomery - Running Back - Iowa State
DOB - JUN 07 1997
Height - 5'11" Weight - 216 lbs

Strengths:

Montgomery runs with great power, balance through contact, and excellent when taking on and running through contact. Montgomery has shown the ability at Iowa State to run between the tackles, due to his strength, vision, and ability to work through contact. But what makes Montgomery special is he also showed the speed, and explosiveness to have success running off tackle. Montgomery has shown quick feet in short areas and the ability to cut in and out of trouble at the line of scrimmage. Does some nice things as a receiver and is a terror to bring down after the catch. Plays with much more burst than you'd think to come from a guy of his build. Due to his vision, play strength, and ability to squeeze through the hole he will score a ton of touchdowns on Sundays.

Weaknesses:

Lacks the home run hitting ability that teams love in running backs nowadays, due to his lack of long speed. Needs to be more consistent catching the football, had far too many drops at Iowa State. Even with his play strength and power, it takes him a while to get going before he picks up a head of steam to break through tackles at the line of scrimmage.

Overall Review:

David Montgomery is built for today's NFL, due to his ability to fit in any system and find success. Montgomery has the size, play strength, and just enough speed to be an effective back in the NFL. Montgomery can improve on his pass catching abilities, and work on being more decisive when hitting the hole at the line of scrimmage. Montgomery was very successful at Iowa State scoring 26 times, rushing for 2,925 yards, and adding 582 yards through the air in three years. In a running back class that lacks elite top-end talent, Montgomery will likely find himself in the mix for one of the top 3-5 running backs drafted in the 2019 NFL Draft.
