Has a great understanding of how to get the ball out quick and on time. Was extremely accurate when throwing to the short-intermediate portion of the field off of RPO's and half field reads. Ball placement in those areas of the field always sets his receivers up with great run after the catch opportunities. At times, Grier threw a really pretty deep ball with touch to the boundary. Absolutely fearless when targeting the middle of the field in all three levels. Though it isn't pretty when he does it, did show the ability to avoid pressure, extend plays, and throw off of awkward platforms consistently. Has a great feel for when to throw with touch in his deep ball, but also the feel for putting the ball on the back shoulder with velocity.
Deep ball accuracy and ball placement were very inconsistent. Receivers bailed him out a ton on underthrown balls, and he missed some wide open guys by overthrowing them. Mechanics are completely a mess from his throwing platform to his long wind-up delivery. Wasn't asked to take any snaps under-center, and ran a high volume of RPO/one-read scheme at West Virginia. The tape shows a guy without a ton of athletic ability. Pressure can completely wreck Grier due to his inconsistent footwork, and unorthodox throwing motion.
Will "The Thrill" Grier is just that... a thrill. At times, Grier looks to be a no doubt first round talent when all cylinders are firing. When Grier's on, there's no better deep ball passer in the draft, but the inconsistencies are a big concern for me. Love Grier's ability to run an RPO offense with ease and a great feel for timing and ball placement. Grier didn't deal with a ton of pressure at West Virginia due to having a solid offensive line, and an offensive scheme that was built around getting the ball out quick. When things are kept clean and Grier is comfortable, he is an extremely accurate quarterback that can throw with tremendous ball placement and anticipation, but again, it comes and goes far more than I'd like to see.
