TE Irv Smith Jr. NFL Draft Profile - Alabama

Irv Smith is an exceptional talent with a very high ceiling. Could he be the next great NFL tight end?

Irv Smith Jr.
Class Year: Junior
Height - 6'3" Weight - 243 lbs
Twitter: @swervinirvin_

Solid speed, smooth route runner and has incredible vision to find the ball in the air. He has experience with a diverse rushing attack after two seasons in Alabama. He is a strong blocker and uses his hands well to create leverage. Incredible toughness and drive make him a threat on every down.

He has enough speed to stretch the field but won’t get away from his opponent easily. He catches the ball well if it is close to him, but there isn’t a lot of tape of him taking the ball away from his chest enough. Contested catches can be a problem for him. None of these are big issues. They will all be ironed out in the NFL.

Overall Review:

There is a lot to like about Smith. No one came close to doing what he did for Alabama in 2018. He wisely chose to leave for the NFL. If he can produce a good 40 time at the Combine, this kid could go mid to late first round.

In his junior season, Smith improved exponentially. He had 44 receptions for 710 yards at an average of 16.1. He played all 15 games for the NCAA Champions and scored seven touchdowns.
