Rodney Anderson - RB

Oklahoma RB Rodney Anderson NFL Draft Profile

Rodney Anderson – Running Back – Oklahoma
Height – 6’1″ Weight – 219 lbs

Strengths:

Rodney Anderson possesses tremendous balance, vision, and burst at and around the line of scrimmage. When Anderson sees an opening, he hits it with a tremendous amount of burst. Anderson possesses quick feet which allows him for great jump cuts, but he also runs with great power in his lower half which allows him to push through defenders at the line of scrimmage, in the hole, and in the open field. Has the ability to hit the home run, but also get the dirty yards in short yardage situations. Patient runner that allows the hole to develop, but can create yards on his own due to his explosiveness working out of the backfield. Sure hands out of the backfield, and is dangerous with the ball in his hands.

Weaknesses:

While he’s shown the willingness to pass block, he goes about it a bit too passive. Needs to play with a stronger base when taking on blitzer when pass protecting. Suffered an ACL injury in 2018 that cut his season short, but also suffered injuries in three of his four seasons at Oklahoma. Durability has to be somewhat of a concern. While I wouldn’t list his power as a true weakness, there are times that I would like to see him run with a little more fire when working through arm tackles at the line of scrimmage.

Overall Review:

Other than the concerns regarding his durability, there a few questions regarding the play of former-Oklahoma running back Rodney Anderson. Ander has incredible vision which allows him to create a lot of yards that he has no business picking up. As a pure runner, Anderson can improve on his strength at the line of scrimmage, but due to having extremely quick feet, and great contact balance he’s able to break through a lot of arm tackles, and hit a lot of home runs. Anderson runs with great burst, long speed, and vision and those are three traits that carry a ton of weight when I evaluate these runners. Rodney Anderson is going to be a hot commodity in the NFL due to his a big play ability, and the signs he’s shown of being a very talented pass catcher out of the backfield.
